21st Century Gargoyles

garg01

Look up. Look way up. Gargoyles of the past were used to ward off evil spirits and protect decent citizens. What does that translate to in today’s surveillance culture?  Are they watching over you – or simply watching you…

Edmonton’s Firefly Theatre presents an interactive aerial installation that is visually stimulating, thought-provoking, and slightly outrageous!

John Ullyatt and Annie Dugan have updated the notion of the gargoyle, merging the ancient stone animal with the surveillance culture of today.

Suspended from above, the gargoyles observe and communicate through physical gesture and written notes with people below, creating individual moments of discovery and delight.
