• We are well into Spring and at the beginning of April, which means that we are due for another edition of Aerialist of the Month! This segment features inspiring students and professionals in Edmonton's circus community and this month we are featuring Firefly student Ruth Broderson. Ruth has been taking classes with Firefly for over a decade and her positive attitude, delicious baked goods, and incredible work ethic have made her a beloved and important member of our community. Ruth is also a Director on our Board and frequently volunteers as stage crew for our shows (she recently did some excellent work helping to make the magic happen at Panache Pt. Deux!). When she's n0t keeping the organization running behind the scenes, Ruth is

  • Welcome to the March edition of our Aerialist of the Month feature, where we feature inspiring students and professionals in Edmonton's circus community. This month we are featuring Firefly Theatre company member Lisa Feehan, who has been a gem, highlight, and staple in many of Firefly's productions for over a decade.   Anyone who has seen Lisa perform will attest to her stunning quality of movement and her bright stage presence, and anyone who has met Lisa is also blown away by how humble she is about it. Lisa is also jaw-droppingly multi-faceted, as the mother of 2 young children and Creative Director for a local marketing firm. She does it all, and she does it with an incredibly laid-back

  • Welcome back to the February edition of our Aerialist of the Month feature, where we feature inspiring students and professionals in Edmonton's circus community. This month we are featuring not one, but TWO inspiring aerialists from our community: Adam & Christina Firth! We thought it would be fitting to share their story in February since it's the month of love and this couple continually inspires us with not only their #circusgoals but their #relationshipgoals too!  As a pair these two have it all: fun, fit, funny, and probably the friendliest people you'll ever meet! When they're not working up a sweat in conditioning class or working on their aerial skills in their silks or trapeze classes, they're busy chatting with fellow students

  • Thanks for tuning in to the January edition of our Aerialist of the Month feature, where we feature inspiring students and professionals in Edmonton's circus community. This month we are featuring Firefly company member and instructor Lyne Gosselin! Lyne has been with Firefly for 12 years and has mentored, taught, and inspired so many of our staff and students throughout the years. Lyne is currently on a teaching hiatus as she is taking the very exciting opportunity to perform full-time in the show Only in Vegas with the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. Before coming to circus, Lyne competed as a trampolinist until the age of 28. Her extensive athletic background gives her incredible insight into the human form and it's capabilities, which is one of

Editor's note: Darcy Proudfoot has been training at Firefly for the past 3 years, and is part of the growing (but still small!) population of male aerialists. While aerial arts are becoming more popular for men, the selection of appropriate aerial clothing for men is still nowhere near as bountiful as it is for women, so with the help of his fellow male aerialists Darcy has put together this handy guide for all current and aspiring male-aerialists.   Introduction Over the last couple of years of attending aerial classes, I’ve tried several variations of clothing in hopes of finding the perfect outfit.  What I’ve learned
